emergency.lu re-established critical connectivity in the Caribbean following hurricanes Irma and Maria, in September 2017. Disaster Response Kits provided critical connectivity for the coordination center in Dominica and restored connectivity for the airport in Saint Martin.
The emergency.lu Rapid Response Kit was deployed by the Government of Luxembourg to provide vital satellite-enabled connectivity to the coordination center in Dominica, following the devastation brought by the Category 5 Hurricane Maria in September 2017.
The connectivity provided by an SES satellite was used for broadband and voice communications, to ensure that emergency services and first responders could stay informed and connected and were able to act quickly where they were most needed.
The solution was deployed upon the request of the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC) to support the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and installed by Luxembourg Civil Protection volunteers.

On 30 August 2017, UNICEF requested the support of emergency.lu for their operations in the Kasai region in DRC.
Decades of armed conflict in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), political unrest and insecurity have resulted in a complex humanitarian crisis. Since April 2016, the conflict in the Kasai region of DRC has been escalating, causing widespread displacements and the loss of livelihoods. An estimated 762,000 people are internally displaced and, due to the conflict in Kasai, 33,500 people have fled to neighboring Angola and Zambia as refugees. In addition, 2 million people are internally displaced in the Kivus and Tanganyika regions.
One emergency.lu regular deployment kit has been deployed in the Tshikapa office providing connectivity to UNICEF, OCHA and FAO.
The system was installed by trained UNICEF staff.
